"Impossible to get through "

About: Handsworth Medical Practice

It is impossible to get through to the surgery at 08.00 to try and get an appointment to see a GP. On many occasions it has taken more than 150 re-dials before I can get through and into the queue. Then, of course, all the appointments have long gone. I recently managed to get through, get an appointment, only for me to be contacted an hour later to cancel and be advised that I should go to the walk in centre. I did this, which cost me £20 in return taxi fares but, on the positive side, I was seen within 45 mins. Fantastic service. This is how GP surgeries used to operate - so much better than the triage service that has remained the norm since covid appeared. Personally speaking, if I am ill (which i am not very often) I do everything I can to self medicate and only as an absolute very last resort do I consider attempting to ring the GP as it is simply too much like hard work, so by that time I am usually really ill and need to be seen straight away. I know there are many patients who feel this way. I have no gripe with the receptionists and wouldn't do their job for all the tea in China.
