I'm 56 years old, male and earlier this week had surgery for the first time in my life. The surgery took place at Northwick Park hospital in North west London. I had a benign cyst the size of an orange removed from my neck. It had attached itself to the left side of my thyroid gland in my throat.
I spent two and a half days in hospital all in all, going in on a Tuesday morning and leaving at around Thursday. I'd like to say from the outset, that during that time at Northwick Park, it was faultless in every way. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome during the whole experience.
From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, every member of staff I encountered was an absolute credit to the NHS. The anaesthetist was superb, putting me at ease from the very start, and the surgeon (Miss Lui) who, with her team, spent I believe three hours in theatre......I will be forever in their debt.
The aftercare was exemplary, and the care shown by them all on the tenth floor was humbling. I thank them all. I will forever champion Northwick Park hospital for all they did for me.
