"Waiting for Cataract Removal"

About: Bridgend Clinic

(as the patient),

I was referred for cataract removal in January 2022.  In March 2023 when I made enquiries about my place in the queue I was told that I was very near the top of the list and that they were dealing with November referrals, so I should get my date within 3 months.

In May I received a phone call offering me an appointment the next day, but unfortunately I was flying off on holiday that day.

In July I had a phone call from the Eye Clinic asking if I could go go for the treatment for my cataract  a week on from the phone call. I was very excited and of course said yes.
I received a letter confirming the appointment and duly arrived at the clinic at the given time, only to be told that this was just a consultation. I was then informed by the doctor I saw that I would not be having the surgery for at least another 6 months. To say I was disappointed is an understatement, as you can imagine.
If only someone had made it clear that, firstly: I was not as close to the top of the waiting list as I was being told that I was, and secondly: my appointment was for a consultation not the longed for surgery.
Perhaps I was naïve to believe that I was being given full and correct information, but I have since heard stories of other people with a similar experience of the Bridgend Eye Clinic.
So I guess I'll just go on waiting, but it would be nice if I felt confident that I will be given information that tells the whole story.
