"I am more than reassured that the nursing care is good"

About: Fife Community Services / Hospital at Home Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 2 (Emergency Surgical)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Following a fall at home I called an ambulance and was brought into the Victoria Hospital

The ambulance crew were really very good in the way they handled the whole situation. It was difficult for them as they had to decide the best way to get me out of the house and into the ambulance.  Throughout making their plan they kept chatting  and  making me laugh a little They just had a way with their communication and knew how to put a patient at ease but they somehow managed to keep me as calm and relaxed as possible.

I was in such an awful lot of pain it was unbearable at times.

There was no bed in the ambulance however the crew made me as comfortable as possible on a seat.

I was taken firstly to Accident and Emergency Department then soon after I was taken into the admissions ward..

To describe the staff, they were all very good.

An X Ray was arranged for me. I really felt cared for and one of the doctors there explained that I had both a broken hip and a fractured shoulder.

When I was brought up to Ward 9 Rapid Assessment Discharge the nurses made me as comfortable as possible. the staff in here have been absolutely great and very very kind.

I can now say that the pain is well under control and I feel a lot more comfortable.

It is no problem at all for the nursing staff to assist me with washing, dressing and toileting. the care is really excellent. The nurses are so careful when they wash me as they know I have been in pain and what my injuries are.

I can also add that the nursing staff  are all very pleasant and helpful in all areas of the Victoria Hospital.  One thing that I notice is that the nurses always seem so bright and cheerful.

I once had a bad experience in Hospital It was last year when I had Covid It was not a good experience at all I hardly saw a nurse and the food I had to eat over a few days was very little.  It really made me dread ever having to come into hospital again.

On return home at that time I am more than pleased to say that the hospital did arrange for me to have hospital at home for 2 weeks. The nurses from that team were excellent I really did appreciate the care they gave me over a two week period.

I also had a cardiology nurse who visited me a home and she has kept in touch.  She cannot always come to the house but I have her card and telephone number and I know that if I need to talk I can just pick up the phone. This is so comforting to know.

I now feel more reassured as I really was dreading ever having to come into hospital again.

This experience has shown me that the nursing care is good and I am well cared for
