We attended RHC, Glasgow for day surgery with our child. She has had several General Anaesthetics for repeated treatment.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful despite the department being very busy.
She was in the middle of the afternoon list and we were told this. This was very helpful to set our expectations and to allow her to have some sips of water.
Last time we were at the end of the morning list but taken last and the list ran on. This is completely unavoidable and we are understanding of this but it would be helpful to know this was happening as she went hours and hours without fluids and if we’d known she was at the end she could have had an ice lolly or some sips.
The playroom is great and a good distraction. Some more chairs would be helpful as when the department is busy in the morning with morning list patients still waiting and afternoon patients arriving, the chairs quickly run out.
Kerry the health care assistant was particularly proactive in checking everyone was ok and finding out if they needed anything. She actively sought to help which I haven’t seen before. Rebecca who clerked us in (nurse) was also lovely as were all the recovery staff.
Many thanks for all your care
