"They have been there for me all the way"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Eden Ward Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Gynaecological oncology

(as a service user),

I was admitted as an emergency with agonising stomach pains to RCH Treliske. A large cyst on my ovaries was found and I was moved to Eden Ward.

The ovaries and tubes were removed the following day. The care was absolutely wonderful from all concerned, consultants, doctors, nurses and ancillaries. I was of course very concerned and each and every person I came into contact with was kind and caring, and all my questions addressed.

All staff were clearly working under extreme pressure, but they all took time to ensure care.

Having been discharged, a while later unfortunately I was contacted re the test results, which showed cancer. A few days later I had an appointment in gyno/oncology at RCH. The consultant was kind and fully explained and answered all my questions in a manner I could understand, and I was then fully briefed by the liaison nurse. Of course I was frightened, but, the the care shown, the time spent and the clarity of the options/procedures made me feel both reassured and 'taken care of'.

Obviously still a long way to go with surgery/scans and chemo, but RCH has been there for me all the way, and I have faith that they be with what's to come.

Dear decemberjx45

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you and thank you for taking the time to leave such positive feedback, especially when you are processing such frightening news.

I am very sorry to read that your tests showed cancer and I sincerely hope that you continue to receive all the support and care that you need.

It is very reassuring to hear that you were treated so kindly, that the care you received following your emergency admission was so good and that the follow up care from the Gynaecology Oncology team left you feeling reassured and cared for.

Our teams work hard to try and minimise any worry or anxiety for their patients, and to make them feel as comfortable and informed as possible, and they very much appreciate all feedback. I will ensure that your kind words are shared with the team that cared for you on admission and with those that followed you up in the Gynaecology Oncology appointment.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience and I wish you all the very best for your on-going treatment.

All the Best

Caroline Amukusana – Governance Lead for the Women, Children and HIV Care Group
