After contacting NHS24 I was taken by ambulance to RAH ED early hours of the morning experiencing severe epigastric pain.
Was seen in ED by a lovely surgical registrar who admitted me to Ward 20. By the morning it was confirmed that my gallbladder needed to come out and I had surgery that day. Everyone was amazing!
The Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Radiology but especially the nurses. The patience, care and compassion shown to me was outstanding. Visited twice daily by a Consultant and kept informed of what was happening. Nothing was too much bother for the RNs and HCSWs.
There was a lovely team vibe on the ward. I would name names but didn’t catch everyone’s name, therefore it would be unfair to mention some and not others. All brilliant, however. Theatre staff also. Every step explained.
Unfortunately my temperature had risen over the weekend so instead of being allowed home I was transferred to Ward 29 for continuation of IV antibiotics to treat two nasty bacteria. I again got lucky to be looked after by another amazing team of nurses and my Consultant continued to visit regularly.
I felt the antibiotics were taking their toll on me and I was feeling sick, miserable and upset at times. I was well supported and comforted by the nursing staff. Lesley (nights) you were just lovely. The HCSW on nights who sat with me after I vomited and cried, you were brilliant. Elaine (days) you were an absolute star and helped me understand what was being said since I have moderately severe hearing loss. No one showed any signs of frustration around needing to repeat themselves.
During my 6 day admission I was overwhelmed by the care, Dignity and Respect shown to me. Can’t really find a single fault. Thank you for everything.
