Received a phone call to attend day procedures for a gynae procedure the next day at 10am and all instructions given for fasting etc. As instructed I arrived on time, fasting and was assisted into gown and stocking in preparation for theatre, had a chat with the doctor and anaesthesiologist, all consented and ready to go. I sat patiently waiting in queue of the theatre list with the other patients then at 4.45pm I was then told we are cancelling my procedure we are running behind so you can go home and they proceeded to go to the patient next to me who arrived after me and was later on the theatre list and took them to theatre.
I was sent home after fasting all-day, losing a full days wages, my husband lost a full days pay as he was to stay with me after surgery and told we will reschedule your procedure. I understand everyone's needs are different and some are more urgent than others but once again I was bumped for someone else to receive care and left waiting for nothing. With a loss of income for two people.
The nursing staff were so apologetic and absolutely fantastic so I cannot fault them for their support and for the cancellation, they too could believe I had been kept all-day and cancelled with someone else taken. I thought after 8yrs I was finally getting the exam and treatment that may ease or heal my condition and emotionally I had built myself up for going for general anaesthetic. Now I'm back to waiting as I have a new date 4 weeks away and have to emotionally get ready again and prepare more time off work for me and my husband.
