"Such a dedicated, caring, professional, quality service"

I am a patient under the care of a Consultant Neurologist in Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast Trust. I contacted my Consultant's PA in November 2022 as I was experiencing severe pain and was desperate for help. The PA advised that she would ask one of the Consultant's Team to ring me. A Neurology nurse rang me and after a lengthy conversation, she undertook to speak to my Consultant in relation to the possibility of me trying a new drug, which is administered via injection. Following her discussion with the Consultant, the Neurology nurse rang me to advise that my Consultant was agreeable for me to commence the drug.

I attended a Nurse Led clinic in April 2023, where the Neurology nurse talked through a number of issues in connection with the drug, including possible side effects and she trained me on how to administer the drug via injection.  She has contacted me on a monthly basis to establish how I was getting on and I have again attended a further Nurse Led clinic. 

My experience of attending Nurse Led Neurology Service at the RVH has been outstanding. From I first made contact with my Neurologist's PA, the service has been excellent.  I am grateful for the help I received from the PA, my Consultant and my Neurology Nurse. The Nurse Led Neurology service at the RVH is excellent, it is such a dedicated, caring, professional, quality service. She has been in contact with my GP to appraise them of my new treatment and to update date them on my progress.

I believe that everything possible is being done to help Neurology patients like me who are, in some cases, experiencing severe pain on a daily basis and for that I am very grateful. I know I can contact the Neurology nurse at any time should I need to, which is very reassuring. I feel the Nurse Led Neurology services are a valuable asset to the Royal Victoria Hospital when delivering Neurological services to the Northern Ireland population.
