"Potential wrong diagnosis"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Cardiology University Hospital Ayr / Combined Assessment Unit (CAU)

(as a service user),

I was admitted to CAU at Ayr Hospital due to heart palpitations. I was seen by a doctor, few test run and put on medication.

On reading discharge notes, I was put on medication for heart failure. I have since found out the consultant was a gastroenterologist and based this off a previous echocardiogram. This same echocardiogram was deemed by cardiology to require no follow up.

So now I don’t know if I have heart failure or just MR. I have called and tried to get updates on when I will see a cardiologist - 50 weeks.

I am not sitting taking a medication for a condition I don’t even know if I have. I am off work and now so depressed not knowing and thinking how I can find the money to go private for an answer.

I am sorry to hear that you have been unwell and that you were admitted into the Combined Assessment Unit here at Ayr. I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that the consultant that did review you is a specialist in Gastroenterology however all our Medical Consultants are on the on call rota for Acute Receiving. Your GP will be in receipt of your discharge notes and plan. I hope you are feeling better and stronger each day.

kind regards

Gordon Elliott
