"Paediatric staff going above and beyond"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Accident & Emergency Ninewells Hospital / Gynaecology Paediatric surgery / Children's Surgical Unit Ward 30 Paediatrics / Children's Assessment Unit Paediatrics / Children's Ward 29

(as a parent/guardian),

In June I called PAU  at 9:30pm as my daughter had abdominal pain on right hand side, explained that my daughter had a congenital adrenal hyperplasia and that we were just at A&E the Wednesday before with the same thing and they just sent us home.  With no hesitation they told us to come through and they would look at her.

We arrived at 10.50pm and the doctors were so quick to examine  my daughter and then discovered that the pain was possible coming from her ovaries. The staff doctors both doctors on duty were called Laura they said your daughter will be going through to ward 29 and will be going for an ultrasound in the morning @ 10:45am.

We moved to ward 29 and the staff were amazing, making sure that my daughter wasn’t in pain and they kept asking if she was ok as they noticed that she was suffering. Later on the gynaecologist came in and said that your daughter has to get surgery as she has cysts on her right ovary which was 9cm and they were concerned so my daughter went for emergency surgery. They were fantastic with my daughter and explained everything what they were going to do, which put my daughter at ease. All the staff in the theatre were amazing also having a laugh singing to Taylor Swift .

13 days later my daughter was concerned about her stitches so I called ward 30 in the morning they said we’ll have a look for you. The staff, Kelly and her colleagues, were so friendly and looked at my daughters stitches. They trimmed off the tails of her stitches as one of them was slightly embedded into her bellybutton which was causing it to be sore and uncomfortable. They were so professional and talked there way through every step with my daughter. In all ward 29, pau, gynaecology and ward 30 went above and beyond to help my daughter. 🤩🤩

Can’t say the same for A&E.  If this had been noticed on the Wednesday it could have been resolved before the Tuesday the following week .
