"Thank you to all involved in our babies journey"

About: Neonatology / Neonatal Community Liaison Nurse Service Ninewells Hospital / Neonatology Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as a parent/guardian),

Our son  was born at 30 +6 weeks and was taken into the NICU at Ninewells hospital Dundee.

His first weekend was eventful with him getting an ambulance ride to Edinburgh for some tests and coming back to Dundee on the Sunday. From there he stayed in the NICU for another 9 and a half weeks before he was allowed to come home.

He had a few issues with his breathing and this led to many tests being carried out to ensure he was all okay. He went from one end of the ward to almost put of the door and then back to where he started as he had another breathing issue. Eventually he overcame all of these problems and the doctors were happy with him to come home.

As parents we saw our baby son going through many procedures and with suffering breathing apparatus attached to his face which all looked uncomfortable and although we wanted him to be free of them we knew they were for his own good.

The team in the NICU from receptionist, cleaners, nurses, community nurses, and doctors all played a part in keeping us sane throughout this period. From the many conversations over the phone with receptionist to chats with the cleaners in the corridor and family room all helped alleviate the stress of what our son was going through.

The nurses and doctors were amazing and we witnessed babies being saved and kept alive every day. The job they do is one that cannot get enough praise. For them it's a job for for parents it's so much more. They are ensuring our babies survive and in doing so ensure future grand children can be born and so on. Saving new life leads to the fact they are saving many every time a baby leaves the ward generations are being allowed to be.

Without the NICU and the great care from all involved, not just for our son but for us parents as well, we would not be able to be at home with our son enjoying his laughs and giggles. There are not enough words to say thank you for the amazing job the NICU staff do. Even after we have gone home the community nurses have been in touch regularly to ensure we are okay and our baby is getting the help he needs.

Thank you to all involved in our babies journey, the surgeons during delivery, the doctors and nurses in NICU, the x ray staff, the ECG team, the ambulance teams that carried him to and from Edinburgh, the staff in Edinburgh, the cleaners and receptionist for caring enough to chat to us and lift our mood, the nurses in the labour wards, basically everyone. You all made our 10 weeks less stressful and all had a hand in helping get our baby home

Thank you for everything. Our son will always know about his aunties and uncles in the Ninewells NICU.

Dear qeminiyc73

Thank you very much for taking the time to post about your here experience on Careopinion.

First of all, congratulations on the birth of your son! I am so glad to read he is now well, however I am sorry to read about the difficult time he has been through at the start of his life, I really can't begin to imagine how difficult this must have been for him and your family, it must have been such a worrying time for you all.

It's so wonderful to read all the lovely words and amazing feedback you have given to everyone involved in your son's care, it sounds as if he was truly in safe hands and amazing to hear he is now home!

From all of here at The Scottish Ambulance Service, we wish you and you wee boy the very best and thanks again
