"A child that was admitted after a call to 111"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Out of Hours Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Paediatrics NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a parent/guardian),

We came up after a call to Nhs 24 due to my concern over my child’s rapid breathing. We were seen by the out of hours Doctor who was lovely and taken to the ward where my child was admitted. We felt tired but reassured by the care given and were able to go home the next day with antibiotics.

Dear Mummypig

I'm sorry to learn your child was unwell with rapid breathing. This sounds like a frightening experience for you all. I'm pleased however, following a short stay in hospital, symptoms were settled enough to enable discharge with antibiotics. I hope you are all on the road to recovery after your ordeal.

It's great to see you felt reassured by the care provided. Reassurance is huge for a worried parent, especially when tired after such a stressful event. Well done to the team at NHS Dumfries & Galloway for providing excellent care.

I see you made an initial call to NHS 24 and we recognised your child required onward care. Should you wish to provide any additional detail in relation to your call to 111, then I would be pleased to hear from you. Often our staff don't hear about what happens to a patient following a call to our service, therefore to be able to share a story such as yours with staff is great and reinforces for them the importance of the care being provided by NHS 24. You can call me on 07814 299944 or email our Patient Experience Team with your child's details, Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk This would enable us to share your kind words with the staff who managed your call.

I hope to hear from you further.

With best wishes to you all meantime.

Shona
