(as a parent/guardian),

Absolutely fantastic staff who looked after my daughter extremely well, but oh my goodness the heat was unbearable. The ward reached 31 degrees, the patients were suffering, the parents were suffering and I’ve no idea how the staff managed to work. The 3 fans dotted around the ward were just not sufficient. We have had 2 overnight stays and a day in the hospital (all on separate occasions) this week and it’s been the same every time we’ve been here. The staff are trying their absolute best but you can tell they’re finding it tough too. How you expect young unwell children to cope in this environment is beyond me.

Dear Heating1,

Thank you for getting in touch to share your experience of the heat issues in our paediatric ward. Temperatures in the past few weeks have been particularly high and we've provided light-weight uniform for staff, fans and cold bottled water supplies to make everyone more comfortable.

The air conditioning systems in the hospital aren't designed to maintain cooling in all areas when we have such spikes in temperature and I can only apologies for the discomfort experienced by yourself, your daughter, other patients and our staff teams. Please be assured that we're working with our estates department to see what other measures we can safely put in place, including consideration of suitable portable air conditioning units.

I hope your daughter is recovering well following her stays with us last week.
