"Would have been more comfortable under an anaesthetic"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I had this procedure as an outpatient.  Whilst the staff were all amazing I cannot help thinking this procedure would be more comfortable done under an anaesthetic.

I was given gas and air to assist whilst having the hysteroscopy carried which was necessary, however I’m surprised the option of a general or local is not offered as I would have definitely opted for this.

Again, I cannot fault my gynaecologist and the nurses who assisted they were absolutely professional and caring.

Dear Emma 73,

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback about your hysteroscopy, and thank you for your kind words regarding the gynaecologist and the nurses. It is always good to hear that our teams are so professional and caring. Our team works hard to try and minimise any worry or anxiety for their patients, and to make them feel as comfortable and informed as possible during such an invasive and intimate procedure, and they very much appreciate all feedback. I will ensure that your kind words are shared with the team.

I am sorry to read that the option of a general or local anaesthetic was not offered and I will ask the team to review this.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience and I hope that you have a positive outcome following your procedure.

All the Best
