We were sent to the Paediatric Assessment Unit after our GP discussed my sons symptoms (a concerning pin prick rash, sickness and lethargy) on the phone with Musgrove who then suggested we came in.
We were greeted in Acorn Ward by a lovely receptionist, and then looked after by Shani during our stay, who was welcoming from the moment we met her, greeting us with a smile and warmth that instantly put us all at ease.
Our son was treated with care and compassion by all the staff we met, as was I as Mum, regularly being offered drinks, blankets etc….and being kept updated on the diagnosis and plan to treat our son.
As a parent, it’s really difficult seeing your child unwell and vulnerable knowing there is nothing you can do to help. Being made to feel comfortable and like you are in safe hands goes a long way towards easing the anxiety and worry you experience.
Shani and the PAU Team were fantastic, there is a lovely warm atmosphere when you walk in to the ward….it felt like we just walked straight in to a big reassuring hug, and I really do hope this feedback makes its way back to Shani to remind her of the positive impact she and the other PAU staff have on children and families visiting the Children’s Ward.
