"A caring, supporting and professional team"

I recently attended the endoscopy department at Altnagelvin hospital for a colonoscopy.  I wish to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the wonderful team of people I encountered throughout my time in this unit, from the reception staff right through to the team of amazing nurses.

A colonoscopy is an extremely intrusive procedure, which caused me a great deal of anxiety and worry in the prelude to it. On meeting the initial nurse as I entered the department, at first I immediately felt a sense of trust and reassurance.

This was followed through on meeting nurse Roisin from the procedure room, who at all times showed an amazing sense of reassurance and encouragement, staying at my side throughout to offer her help and support. When I was introduced to the team leader, Stacy, I was instantly impressed with the manner in which she took the time to hear my story and explain the procedure in detail, stopping to ask if I had any questions or concerns.  She immediately reassured me and put me at ease. I instantly felt a sense of complete trust in her.  

While the procedure was ongoing I was kept completely informed of what was happening. The procedure room team of Stacy, Roisin and Erin were nothing short of outstanding. They went over and above to show complete compassion, care and support for me throughout. Maintaining my dignity and showing respect at all times.

Once the procedure had ended I was entrusted into the care of nurse Mary in recovery.  This lady was yet another example of the caring, supporting and professional team working in this department. 

I feel that if this is an example of the care that the NHS has to offer, we are all in the safe hands of a body of professional people who simply have our physical and emotional well being truly in their hearts. Despite the numerous pressures I know that they are working under, I at no point felt rushed, hurried or uncared for.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to each and every one of this superb team of professionals.  I am truly grateful for the care and compassion you treated me with. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all.
