My son has autism. He attended University Hospital Wishaw for day surgery. Things can be tricky for him with regards to the unknown, new surroundings, over stimulated, anxiety, different noises etc.
All the staff who attended to him from Dr El-Amin, his assistant, Steve, the anaesthetist, nurses Elspeth, Cheryl and all the other nurses (sorry didn't get all their names) were so pleasant, understanding and supportive. I really can't rate them all highly enough.
We came away feeling he had been so well looked after and that really helped us. Every one of them showed care and understanding, not just for my son but for myself and my husband.
One of the nurses asked him what he liked and she came back with a printed picture of his favourite football player and cartoon character. He has now asked for it to be put in a frame for his bedroom, he absolutely loves it.
It's these kind actions which really helped him. So I just felt I needed to highlight our experience.
"Pleasant, understanding and supportive"
