I have had hip and back pain for a long time, and had limited benefit from physio on land, because pain interfered with my ability to complete the exercises. This made me frustrated and disheartened.
My physio at QEUH referred me to hydrotherapy at RAH, and I waited for a few months to be assessed.
The staff have been wonderful (special thanks to Alasdair, Caryn & Blair), carefully assessing my needs and my hopes for treatments and adapting my treatment plan to take account of my progress. They put me at ease and quickly identified when to push me and when to hold back a bit.
I have benefited from using the warm water for pain relief as well as the gentle resistance while doing the exercises, and each week I've gained confidence as well as strength and mobility.
Things aren't perfect now of course, but it's been a life changing few weeks for me and made me determined to keep getting stronger and moving a little more each week. I'm sorry to have come to the end of my sessions.
Thanks to all of the staff who helped me through this - just wish more people could have access to this service, which has faced reductions in recent times.
