"My child's overnight stay in paediatrics"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My child was recently admitted to pediatrics due to breathing difficulties. You can imagine this was a very scary time for both myself and my child. All staff within the pediatric ward in DGRI were absolutely fantastic. They immediately put my child and myself at ease. Everything they had to do to my child was explained first and they had fantastic ways of doing things to make it less scary.

One nurse in particular, when trying to get a nebuliser on my child mentioned the book Zog. This completely changed my child's experience of the nebulizer as they then willingly put and kept it on pretending they were Zog and were blowing fire at me. This was likely nothing new for the nurse to do or say however it completely changed my child's experience of something which could have been terrifying. I cannot praise and thank all staff enough.

Hi Doradorx93, thank you very much for your lovely feedback following your recent stay on the children's ward with your child. I am glad that the staff were able to put both you and your child at ease and deal with the immediate problem. I hope that your child is continuing to improve. Thanks again for the feedback, I will definitely share it with staff
