"Sexual Health Clinic"

About: Fife Community Services / Sexual Health

(as a service user),

I had to attend the sexual health clinic after being in a lot of pain.

Before attending I felt uncomfortable and was very emotional with being in pain and not sure what was going on. The nurse Susan was lovely, she went over and above.

I had some issues with my phone meaning I didn’t get a call back on the same day, she added me to her call list and found a way for me to attend an appointment without having to call back on the Thursday to try for a same day appointment. I instantly felt comfortable with her and she took the time not only to calm me down but answer all my questions. It made what can be a very uncomfortable and awkward experience very calm.

Recently I have not felt the most cared for from some of my GP visits however Susan made very comfortable and if I could have her as my nurse for every appointment I would be less nervous about attending.

As there are no longer drop in sessions I have not had a sexual health check up for a number of years, Susan explained the process and ran the relevant tests all while keeping me very calm for the entire appointment. Overall for what could be an uncomfortable and awkward appointment I found myself very relaxed and able to talk freely without any judgement.

Dear sunflower123, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience of the sexual health clinic. I am sorry to hear that you were in a lot of pain and understand how upsetting this must have been for you. We do appreciate how difficult it can sometimes be for people to access sexual health services therefore I am pleased to hear that Susan was able to arrange an appointment for you and put you at ease. Our aim is to ensure that all of our patients are treated with respect and compassion in a non-judgemental manner and are fully informed and listened to in order to be involved in decisions about their care. I am delighted to hear that your experience has been such a positive one and I hope that your pain has now subsided.

I will be sure to share your feedback with Susan and the rest of our team.

Kirsty Durham, Sexual Health Senior Charge Nurse
