Having been diagnosed with diabetes, I was listed for diabetic retinopathy screening and as such my condition had progressed to the point that I required some immediate treatment.
After an initial consultation I was set on a path which would include several sessions of laser treatment with Mr Mahmood, (apologies if spelled wrong) my consultant in the eye clinic.
I have to say I was so anxious about the treatment as it was the first time I have ever been faced with something like this, Mr Mahmood was very kind and gentle in his approach to me, an approach that actually impressed me. I recall him greeting me at a Christmas time session by firstly wishing me and my family a peaceful and blessed Christmas. There was something special in that gesture. He acknowledged how special Christmas was to me in doing so. He also took interest in my story, and that of my family, he spent time getting to know me.
The treatment itself was always well explained and I was very content with the service provided. I should also say at this time that the nurses and other staff who form part of his team were always very helpful and supportive during the treatment.
My treatment is continuing at the mo with 1 session to go of very minor therapy. I feel very heartened that it has worked and that Mr Mahmood is happy with the progress.
My eyesight is so very valuable and maybe I took that for granted, I didn’t think that diabetes would have affected me in the way it has. I hope and pray that the wonderful work that this very skilled man completed on me will preserve not only my sight but that of the many patients under his care.
I would like to recognise his work, thank him for his dedication and urge him to stay at the western trust as my consultant, and as a colleague, albeit we work in different areas of the trust it is reassuring to know that such skills are available in our organisation.
You are very much appreciated by me.
Thank you sir.
