"Mask wearing policy"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiology (Heart Conditions) Wards 6c & 6d

(as a relative),

I was visiting a relative today and went to his room without a mask or any comment from the staff at the desk . I was told previously you didn’t have to wear a mask .

As I left my relative’s room to  go to the toilet the staff were at the desk and there was no comment to me.  However, on my return, I was challenged as to where I was going and who I was visiting..

I  said I was visiting a relative and they said in a what I found a very officious manner that I needed to wear a mask .

I said I had not been asked about this on my previous visits . They said it was policy.  They  gave me a mask and I wore it,  however they failed to notice that I was wearing hearing aids and therefore was exempt.

Can you please clarify the policy in wearing masks in Ward 6 D as there seems to be  different policies on different days .

I found the staff at  the desk to be very unhelpful and challenging .

Dear Stephen23

Thank you for your feedback.

At the beginning of April, NHSGGC, in line with guidance elsewhere in the UK, decided to change the guidance for use of facemasks in our hospitals. It is no longer compulsory to wear a face mask in our hospitals. However, our staff will continue to wear masks when providing patient care or when walking through clinical areas. We are updating the changes to our staff as quickly as we can via our internal communication networks and I would like to apologise that you were challenged by a member of staff. This will be discussed with the staff in the ward.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Kind Regards

Nicole
