"Confusing Sexual Health Clinic advice"

About: Community Sexual Health & Reproductive Services

(as the patient),

I have been trying to get an appointment to be tested in Tayside Sexual Health Clinic. I have been in a long term relationship and my partner has been unfaithful. I phoned the triage line for the Sexual Health Clinic to get an appointment, explain my circumstances and was told I would not be suitable for an appointment and had to apply for a test kit to be sent out. I then applied for the test kit and was sent an email to say that I could not receive a test kit and I would need to get an appointment. I called the triage line again and was dismissed very quickly even after explaining my issues and circumstances again and that I would have to say I had no symptoms when applying for a test kit so one could be sent out.

I find it ridiculous that I cannot receive an appointment even after explaining my issues I have had when trying to receive a test kit. Many STI's lie dormant with no symptoms what so ever and it should not be this hard to do the right thing and get tested. Its extremely upsetting and distressing to know that I could potentially have an STI and nothing can be done about it as I don't check all the correct boxes to even be seen.

Thank you for your feedback ‘foxtrotgf37’. We are continually looking to improve our service and value all feedback.

I am sorry to hear about your experience and hope you have received your test kit since submitting your story to Care Opinion.

We have recently been informed of a temporary problem with our test kit supplier which may have resulted in you either not receiving the test kit or an email advising you were not entitled to a test kit.

Whilst I understand due to your circumstances you wish to be tested, we have criteria to be met to be appointed to an appointment within the clinic and we are currently unable to offer face to face appointments for routine testing.

If you would like to discuss your individual case further please email: TAY.tsrhadmin@nhs.scot and one of our admin team will arrange a call for you.
