"Anger and dismay at my father's care"

About: Broadgreen Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

I went to visit my father who is totally immobile without being told he had been moved due to having contracted norovirus. I was led into the infectious ward and it stank. I have been since told it is very likely I will also become ill with the highly contagious virus. I was not warned and my father has been allowed to become ill twice with this within two weeks, on two separate occasions.

I simply cannot express my anger and dismay towards a totally inadequate system, This is sadly not an occasional one off incident, its going on all the time. I feel the elderly are not being adequately treated in hospitals anymore and are entering at their peril. An immediate review and emergency measures need to be implemented, as I do not believe this is lawful and is an outright breach in duty of care.

We are very sorry to hear of your father's experience at Broadgreen Hospital and that he did not receive the level of care that we would expect.

We also acknowledge how upsetting it must have been for you to be exposed to the infections.
