"Waiting time for scan"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as a service user),

I was unfortunately taken in to hospital in June of 2022, after experiencing breathlessness and chest pain. I had a triple heart bypass over 30 years ago and then a stent fitted 10 years later. Unfortunately, I was away for the weekend when it happened, however the hospital was able to fit 4 stents and referred me back to my GP and I joined a rehabilitation group for a couple of weeks.

Fast forward 6 months, and I began to feel breathless and visited my GP, who believed it was asthma and bronchitis related. Since then, I’ve been prescribed 6 courses of antibiotics and steroids, had my inhaler changed, yet I still feel breathless. A blood test did highlight something so I have now been referred for a scan.

I contacted PALS over 2 weeks ago and I have yet to hear back from them. I am awaiting validation on when I will receive a follow-up appointment with a cardiologist because other than a telephone conversation over 6 months ago, I have yet to see one in person.

Dear Kendee

Thank you for your feedback and it is clear from your posting how disappointed your experience has left you feeling and for that, I am really sorry.

Unfortunately, we have seen a significant increase in the number of contacts to our PALS team which means we have not been able to respond to our callers as quickly as we would like. We fully appreciate this does not make for a positive experience and again, I am really sorry that you've not had any contact for over two weeks.

I wonder if you would be happy to email into the team, their email address is myh-tr.palsmidyorks@nhs.net, they will then be able to look into your cardiology appointment.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I emailed in the first instance which would be at least 3 weeks ago in total. I only called after the fact as I hadn’t received a response. I am now left with no resolve which is highly frustrating. I really appreciate they’re in high demand however, it really does worry me that it is at the detriment of others.

Good morning Kendee

Thank you for coming back to me. I am really sorry you had no response via email. Could I ask that you email again and once received, I'll ask someone in the team to pick it up.

Kind regards

I will most definitely try again. Third time lucky.

I added a review and you advised me to once again contact PALS. I did take your advice however, when they did respond on Monday 23/04/2023, it was unable to take their call and they left a voice mail but no extension number or name. They requested I call back which I did the following day however, it was the standard telephone number and I am yet to receive a call which just clarified PALS is also in need of some assistance as the waiting time is much lengthier that what it once was.

My point is, it is good advice to that I should call back, however, I am still in the same predicament I was when I posted my feedback. Also, I am unable to update a response to the thread explaining I have in fact followed their advice yet, I am still no further forward.
