"Heard nothing but a leaflet through the door"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Urology

(as a relative),

My mum was diagnosed with cancer in her kidney after attending a routine appointment. My mum was told in her appointment that a meeting would be held with a specialist team and she would be getting surgery to partially or fully remove her kidney within 2-4 weeks.

After 3 weeks we heard nothing. Then last week we received a leaflet through the door outlining her partial kidney removal surgery. No letter to explain. No follow-up from her diagnosis appointment.

I have called Urology 2 times over the past week and half to be told someone will call me back to explain what is happening, and I still haven't had a call. I don't think this is acceptable. To be told you have cancer unexpectedly, then to have to deal with the level of service my mum has received is shocking!

Dear HMMJ19

Thank you for taking the time to share your healthcare experience with us via Care Opinion.

I am sorry that you were not made aware of the outcome of the MDT meeting regarding your mum’s diagnosis. However, I understand that a member of the Urology Team has spoken with you this afternoon to talk you through the progress from your mum’s referral until now. I also understand that you are now aware of the details of the plan moving forward.

I do hope that this has been helpful.

Kind Regards

Pamela
