I had double mastectomy in sept 21 and then chemo which finished in feb 22, a gynecological operation in April 22 and I was on Herceptin from Jan 23.
I was really struggling with fatigue and pain and had no confidence to go for a walk on my own due to the way I felt. My consultant referred me to the move more program in the cancer centre. The referral process was really quick and I had my first class in nov 22.
I have just completed the program and the results have been brilliant.
At first I was so deconditioned that I founded the class difficult but I was supported by Joe and it really helped me to have the nurse there. Over the months it was tough but it got easier and this gave me a benchmark to see my improvement. It was also good to be in a class with others, albeit by teams, and I didn’t feel so isolated. I was suffering from bad aniexty when I started and I really believe this class helped with that. After all my surgeries and treatment I was scared to exercise in case I hurt myself but I felt confident in the expertise and type of exercises we did.
Despite this being by teams Joe has razor sharp vision attention as he always corrected me when I was not doing things quite right!
I can honestly say that this program has helped my recovery immensely. I dread to think what I would have continued to be like without it. I am now looking forward to progressing with other community groups to get more movement!
A big thank you to Joe and all his care and attention. This program was crucial to the improvement in my body and I am now able to go back to work on a part time basis, which I often wondered whether this would be possible.
