"Always thought a woman going thru this would be supported."

About: Causeway Hospital / Early Pregnancy Unit Causeway Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

Attended A&E several days ago with a major bleed, was admitted to gynae and told miscarriage was happening, sent home the next day to allow it to pass naturally, was gave an appointment booked for the following day to be scanned to check if all products had came away or surgery would be an option. I arrived for my appointment with a white container containing possible remains of my lost baby and my folder or notes were not there and the nurse didn't have an idea why. So after I was scanned the nurse (with nothing to base it on as yet) found it hard to see the womb etc printed a picture and left the room with it to speak to a doctor. They had to look up my notes on computer. Doctor never came near me to check or speak and nurse returned and said it looked like miscarriage had happened and to take a test in 2 weeks to check for a positive and if so to contact gynae.

I asked what happens now and don't believe I received proper support. I signed a form to have my baby's remains took to be looked at and then buried in Antrim. Told that id have to contact the cemetery to check times for this. I asked about speaking to someone or what support is available and was told its a common thing to happen and giving my age, my ovary's are 40. I was told to hold on while nurse left the room and they returned with a leaflet and said we could just try again after my next period. I've never experienced a miscarriage before and have had previous pregnancies. I left the hospital today feeling absolutely alone and pushed out the door. I always thought a woman going thru this would be supported. Nurse said they could see 3 miscarriages in one day in EPU and I sat stunned because I was only interested in mine at that moment.
