"The staff deserve a medal!"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Emergency Care and Medicine Services

(as a service user),

I was referred to A&E South West Acute Hospital (SWAH) for urgent blood tests and x-ray.

The A&E Department was extremely busy - there was no space anywhere and I was only able to sit on a chair during my entire visit, with a portable screen pulled round when the doctor was examining me.

In spite of being overrun and very difficult working conditions, all the staff treated me, and the other patients, with courtesy, patience and professionalism. They managed to get my bloods and x-ray done and I was able to go home reassured.

The staff deserve a medal!

Dear Meg158

thank you for taking the time to post a comment on this platform about your recent visit to our department.

As you have rightly noted, the Emergency Department is a busy place and it can be difficult to accommodate every patient with a cubicle or a bed. Priority has to be given to those with a clinical need firstly and we can only work with the resources available to us.

I am pleased to hear you were treated well and with courtesy, patience and professionalism. It is our aim to provide high levels of care, and in your case we have achieved this.

I am glad that all you tests were OK, that your were able to go home and are making a steady recovery, I hope.

I cannot provide medals for our team, however you kind words of encouragement will more than suffice!

kind regards

John Kerr
