"Uncomfortable eye surgery experience"

About: Crawley Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I attended the day surgery in March at Crawley hospital to have my left cataract done. I also had my right eye done at Crawley with the same surgeon last year. There were a few complications on that occasion and it took over an hour to complete but to be fair the staff in theatre were very attentive and kept me informed the whole way through. And I also had an apology because it took longer than they expected.

This time round was totally different. The surgeon and staff didn't make me feel relaxed one bit and I found the whole process horrendous.  I think I was asked once if I was OK and they didn't let me know what was happening the whole time I was there.  It was very uncomfortable.

By the end I was feeling a lot of pain and discomfort where I could literally of burst out of the bed I was that agitated.  I believe this was all because they were not talking to keep me calm like the last operation. This time was just total silence, not pleasant at all.

I never complain as I'm not that type of person but unfortunately I didn't feel comfortable with the surgeon who was operating on my eye. Apart from this all the other staff from when I arrived to when I left were brilliant.
