"Unprofessional comments"

About: Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / First responder paramedic The Ulster Hospital / Respiratory Hub

(as a service user),

I have had a chest infection for 2 weeks and last Friday morning I called 999. They sent a paramedic out and I couldn't praise them enough. They really made me feel easier as my breathing has been quite laboured. I have just been told by my daughter that as they were leaving they said they didn't know why I had phoned as there was nothing wrong with me.

I ended up in Ulster hospital Friday afternoon was seen by a doctor who confirmed I have a severe infection and prescribed stronger antibiotics. This doesn't seem very professional to me and has caused some stress.

Good afternoon circinuswg77,

Thank you for taking the time to submit your valued feedback. I am so sorry to hear that despite the high praise you have for the care provided to you by the paramedic, this has been overshadowed by their parting comment. I am also sorry to learn how poorly you’ve been and for the added distress this comment has caused you. I do hope that you are starting to feel much better. If you would like a member of our Service User Feedback Team to get in touch to progress your concern further, please provide your contact details or alternatively they can be contacted at complaints@nias.hscni.net or on 02890 400999.

Trusting this is acceptable

Best wishes

Neil
