I am on a gluten-free diet and certain members of the catering staff have been giving me foods that are not gluten-free or that contain tomatoes.
I have reflux caused by a hiatus hernia and must avoid tomato based products and find that a gluten-free diet is better for the reflux. I don't always get what I ask for, having been provided with a special gluten-free protein rich diet sheet. I have special cereal which I provided myself and the caterers prefer to fob me off with the gluten variety even though I have asked them to give me what I have provided.
Also, I was refused when my dad brought a ready meal in to heat up for my evening meal, saying they aren't allowed to heat things up from home brought in by visitors. What is needed is a kitchen where visitors can heat things up for loved ones who have to stay on this ward. I was left in tears as I didn't have anything to eat that night.
There is one caterer who is lovely, who went out of her way to make sure I got what I wanted from a special diet sheet, who I can't fault but otherwise I was left feeling as if no one cares or is bothered about me. It's as if I am too much trouble.
