"Efficient, friendly and person centred service"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

My 3-year-old woke in the middle of the night with noisy breathing. After reading NHS Inform's page on croup, I called NHS24. The call handler was lovely and kept checking back with me until the nurse was free.

We were sent to A&E at RHCYP and the receptionist was friendly and welcoming. We were seen by a nurse within minutes who quickly assessed my son.

Thankfully, his breathing had dramatically improved, and to save us hanging around the hospital for hours, she made us an out of hours appt with a doctor so we could go and rest.

Efficient, friendly and person centred service.

Dear Chassisrs75,

My name is Claire and I work for the Patient Experience team with NHS Lothian. Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your experience with NHS 24 and A&E at RHCYP. It is encouraging to hear that you felt reassured by the information and treatment you received when your little boy was unwell with Croup.

I am pleased to read that he had improved at this time and that you were both able to return home to have some rest. I hope he has continued to recover.

The team at RHCYP will be delighted to receive this feedback and we have ensured that this is passed on to them.

I wish you both well,

Claire
