Two weeks after radical bladder removal surgery my wound had to be reopened for further surgery due to the bursting of stitches on my bowel. After a five week stay in hospital during which a V.A.C.system was used to deal the the fluid from the wound. The fluid had been compromising the adhesive on the bladder bag causing it to regularly leak.
When I was discharged I still had the V.A.C. System and was put under the care of the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust’s District Nursing Team .
During the four month period under the Team’s care words cannot describe how grateful I am. I received exemplary treatment from all the nursing team and the nursing students who attended at times. Everyone was friendly, kind, reassuring, non judgemental and no matter how busy they were they all always had time to listen.
I have nothing but the highest praise for the District Nursing Team and the work they do on a daily basis. It was obvious to me that everyone is fully commitment to their work in the community. No matter what the weather condition were you knew that they would be along to tend to you need.
