"Prompt treatment for a broken right wrist"

(as the patient),

:One very recent Thursday lunchtime, I thought I had sprained my wrist badly when I fell on it in the house and phoned local health centre to ask if they could bandage it for me as it was my dominant hand.  They said no, that I had to have an x-ray and advised me to call 111.  Prompt answer from 111 and had a 3-way conversation incl a nurse.  They said they'd phone me back with an appointment for Forth Valley Royal Hospital and 10 mins later did exactly that.......it was for 45 mins later.   

My son drove me to the 1:30pm appointment.  After checking in, I got straight through to x-ray dept, was very soon seen by someone and soon after that was x-rayed.  Not long after that I was called back through and shown the crack in my wrist.  I was given a splint and sent home with an aftercare leaflet.  Everyone I had contact with was very positive and friendly and I was told I'd be contacted within 5 working days to visit orthopedics.

The next day, Friday, I had a text from that dept and a letter arrived the following day, Saturday, telling me an orthopedic surgeon had looked at my x-ray and deemed a plaster cast appropriate - appointment on the Monday morning.  

Again I found staff to be very friendly and caring and Claire plastered my arm (with the colour of my choice!), assisted by Magda.  After it dried I saw the nurse who checked me over and gave me an appointment 4 weeks thence.   

I feel very privileged to have been given such a thorough, efficient, all-round experience.  I feel confident going forward with my recovery and secure in knowing I have a number to call and a name, should there be any problems.
