"A very happy Aberdonian"

About: General Surgery / Surgical Unit

(as the patient),

From the minute I arrived at Stracathro. I was met by a lovely Receptionist at front desk. She took details and I was shown straight through to my bed.

All forms were filled in by the very efficient Nurse Practitioners.

There was a great amount of staff in the morning and all were very cheery.

Once meeting the Surgeon and Anaesthetist I was comfortable and was offered regularly iced water awaiting transfer to Theatre.

Feeling a little nervous, the transfer through to Theatre, was all very slick and no problems. I was met by a very friendly Staff Nurse who straight away took all fear away.

My transfer to recovery was well managed even after a drop in Blood Pressure. Thank you to the lovely Agency Staff Nurse.

My only criticism would be the reduction in the staff in the afternoon. Three staff were taken to Ninewells leaving the Staff Nurse Joyce in the afternoon running around trying to give everyone attention. She remained cheerful, though it felt there should have been more staff dealing with discharges and paperwork. The surgery went on late  and she was still having to ensure critical observations on top of discharges going home.

Thank you Stracathro a very happy Aberdonian.

Hi Gilly51,

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your feedback it is very much appreciated and welcomed by all the staff here and I am pleased you had a good experiance, we are proud of the staff and the service and care that we give.

As with all the healthboards we are experiencing unpresidented demands on the hospitals beds and sometimes decisions have to be made to redeploy staff to support other areas with critical/emergency care to ensure patient safety within all areas. We are fortunate that this is on an occasional basis and as you have seen our staff are able to cope well and keep smilling.

We all wish you a speedy recovery from the surgical unit in Stracathro
