Overnight admission to Ward 102 for biopsies of lung under GA at The Royal, Edinburgh.
All staff were extremely helpful, theatre staff, plus recovery staff again amazing, and surgeon did an excellent job.
The ward was large and extremely busy, therefore admission to an available bed on the day was clearly a struggle and challenge for the staff. Discharge appeared to be a problem also, with a long delay for a letter for my GP and one for myself to take home, despite giving two hours notice of my pickup and two hour journey home.
There were two ladies sitting in day rooms waiting to be admitted to a bed so I could not see why one of them could have been given mine while I waited in the day room.
As a retired senior nurse myself, I could see slight improvements could be made to relieve stress for both patients and staff in these two areas, but the main point is that all the staff were trying their very best for the patients in a very large ,horrendously busy ward.
