I had my second baby at the maternity unit at the end of September after recently moving to Glasgow from a different health authority, where I had a negative experience with my previous labour. The process to admit me as new patient in the unit was smooth and midwives were extremely helpful during the last few months of my pregnancy and informed me well of the unit’s services.
Labour itself went very smoothly, with kind help from all the staff at the ward where I was induced despite being on a temporary floor at the time, and I’m forever grateful to the midwife (who wore glasses) and student midwife (with the most calming blue eyes and soothing voice) who delivered my child and were extremely kind, accommodating and caring. I can’t remember their names but they were young and very friendly, and I wish I had taken a note of them to thank them individually because I completely forgot with all the emotions of the moment.
The labour room was very clean, well equipped and comfortable, and so was the lovely room I spent the night with two other new mums, which was bright and had great views. Staff were also lovely, particularly a really nice nurse with a Minnie Mouse brooch on her uniform who was working there both days of my stay.
My only negative experiences during those months were in the scan department where most of the time I was inflexibly treated by the reception staff who didn’t accommodate for timing requirements or for a second child to attend because I didn’t have anyone to leave her with with. The scans were very quick and impersonal, the images weren’t clear , and was never offered pictures.
"Great care and help during labour"
