"I'll never be able to thank you enough"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My little boy was admitted at the end of December and we were terrified. He had had a seizure at home for the first time ever and honestly it felt like our world was being ripped apart.

All the nurses on PICU were so kind, calming and professional. They truly care about the children they are looking after. Even from picking the right bedsheet design and gown, and popping tiny gel pads under my boy’s ankles so he doesn’t mark from lying still so long.

They might say “it’s just our job” but it’s so much more than that to us parents. You made a horrible, scary experience so much better for us and I’ll never be able to thank you enough for the kindness you treated us and our boy with.

I felt so kept in the loop, so cared about, and so confident in their care of him that I actually managed to rest whilst there which I haven’t been able to do at home (so a special thank you there). Nothing was too much trouble for them, and when he was finally awake and no longer intubated, the phenomenal care continued. One nurse even managed to make him a tuna mayo sandwich at 6am because he was asking for one (it’s all he eats sandwich-wise due to ASD).

He wasn’t scared when he woke but greeted by smiling happy faces and reassurance from his nurses. So much so he wanted them to cuddle with him in his bed!

That was our first and hopefully our last visit to PICU in Stoke, but honestly the trauma was significantly minimised by the wonderful staff that work there. Thank you endlessly.

Good morning,

Thank you so much for sharing your incredible feedback for our team on PICU. I am so pleased to read that Finn was so well looked after- I do hope he is continuing to recover well.

I will ensure I pass on your lovely words to our PICU team- I know the staff on there will very much appreciate you taking the time to comment.

With very best wishes

Rebecca Pilling
