My husband had a brain a subarachnoid haemorrhage which was a complication of an endarterectomy. We both terrified as we didn't know what was happening. My husband was admitted to the stroke unit at the Pilgrim Hospital at the end of December 2022.
Whilst he was on the unit it was apparent there was a shortage of nurses. Patients buzzers were being ignored. My husband's nappy was down to his knees where he hadn't been changed. He was often cold as no-one helped him put on his dressing gown. He has a left sided weakness and no-one cut his food for him - pots had lids left on, butter jam cheese and biscuits were left. Phones were ignored. I witnessed a nurse sitting at the desk the phone started ringing they lifted the receiver and put it back in the cradle without answering. I asked for pain relief for one patient at 3:00 pm and he still hadn't had it when I left at 6:00pm.
