I was admitted for a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I’ve never had general anaesthesia and was very scared. Michelle, your student nurse and Mandy on Ward G5 were incredible, they went through my paperwork, put me at ease, and Michelle took me down to theatre.
I admitted my fears, and she cried alongside me, she was amazing. After surgery, which actually turned out to be major abdominal, stage 4 endometriosis, frozen pelvis, I was in a lot of pain, I was incoherent and don’t remember much of the day other than saying that it hurt and I didn’t feel right.
These ladies, and ALL the staff on G5 were amazing. They had me on constant pain relief during the night, made me comfortable, checked my wounds and dressings regularly, and quite literally gave me their all. I cannot thank them enough.
The following day, I was still on the ward and again ALL the staff, Sisters, nurses, students, healthcare, service assistants, housekeepers, everyone has been incredible, they are a credit to the hospital, you should be proud of them. Again, Michelle was on shift last night, she recognised me and asked how I was, commented on how much better I was doing and it was just really lovely to get that personal touch across.
On another note, there has been a particularly difficult patient, and Michelle handled this amazingly during the whole night. She is honestly amazing. With regards to the whole of Ward G5, it really is true what they say, not all superheroes wear capes, some wear an NHS uniform!
