My son was diagnosed with crohns disease in 2018 when he was 7. He was diagnosed fairly quickly but it has been a slow and ongoing process getting the right medication for him and he also had some surgery in 2021.
It has been a difficult road and there have been some hiccups in his care during hospital stays but mostly due to staff shortages.
After joining a UK wide support group for parents of children with IBD I have come to realise how lucky we are to have such a fantastic IBD team in NHS Lanarkshire.
Having a nurse specialist as a direct contact is common practice, however from what I have read it is not as common to have a nurse as supportive as Ali. She has been a fantastic support over these years I have called on her expert advice frequently and nothing is ever an inconvenience. I have also called Heather the IBD secretary at times when Ali is off she does her best to help and contacts the consultants.
The consultants that also do a great job and having direct access to ward 19 have also made this journey easier than some of the stories I have read. Thank you to the IBD team and NHS Lanarkshire for providing this service.
