"Doctors individually good, admin staff shocking!"

About: Glovers Lane Surgery

(as the patient),

These are the latest incidents covering past three weeks:

Collected monthly prescription - wrong tablets. Went to surgery personally, offered a new prescription the following day, leaving me without medication for 24 hours. Next day (a Friday), I checked with the chemist, no script! Spent at least 45 mins trying to connect with surgery to be told doctor(s) had not yet signed. At 3/30-ish, I tried calling the surgery, I was no 3 in the queue, holding for 30 minutes, so walked 15/20 minutes to surgery, still connected - no 3 in the queue.

Just as I was arriving, a receptionist answered (who had been extremely unhelpful this whole episode), and I informed them I was 2 minutes away.  I arrived at the desk just as the receptionist walked back in, holding my prescription, newly signed. I explained how frustrated I felt, and they responded by going on the offensive and telling me not to raise my voice. I was left speechless, took my script and left.

One week ago I took a bad fall flat on my face due to my neurological condition, and since this is a frequent occurrence, I limped home, nose bleeding, right eye swelling, in shock and waited to see if I had a black eye. I did later that evening, so I set my alarm for 7.58 a.m. in order to see a doctor by appointment, phoning the surgery on my landline and mobile.  I waited for a call back, which came after 9 a.m.

Explained to the triage nurse my situation, and after their reporting to the doctor, they reported back that the doctor had told me to go to A&E. I told the nurse that at my age, I could not physically cope and would take my chances. The nurse was concerned and tried to persuade me to go, but I was adamant I would not. Day by day the eye went darker and larger through a whole spectrum of colours, including a bright raspberry red! Finally, the bruising is fading but still very obvious.

Yesterday, I attended at the surgery to enquire as to what drops I should get for my ear. Admin said I needed to speak with the doctor, so phone between 8 and 9 a.m. to see if I'm lucky with the appointment lottery. Each time I asked a question, the reply was the same - ring between 8 and 9 a.m.

I'm desperate to find a new practice, but I must attend for a registration form. I'm stuck indoors in this weather, so when I can manage this, I will.

I cannot believe what this country has become, and am glad I'm on my way out!
