Anything else?
I have been seen by many hospital departments at the JR including cardiology, ophthalmology and A&E over the years. The treatment and level of care that I have received from all these services has been outstanding and I cannot fault it. However, unfortunately in my opinion the same cannot be said for paediatric neurology. I have been seen by neurology since 2011. I recently had another appointment. At previous appointments I felt that the consultant was quite condescending but did not think much of it at the time. This appointment was not any different, but there were many other factors which I was not at all impressed about. When the consultant called my mother and I in he did not wait for us to pick up our stuff and follow him. Instead he walked straight to his consulting room, leaving us wondering exactly where he had gone. Whilst explaining how I had been since my last appointment he was constantly looking at my notes rather than at me and I wasn't sure whether he was paying much attention to what I was saying. After explaining my symptoms we still did not get much closer to a diagnosis. I am 18 next year so I understand that I will be transferred to adult services. Instead of explaining this to me the consultant said quite bluntly that I was 'too old' to be seen by him. After this remark he said that he will see me 'one more time' and whether we reach a diagnosis or not he will not refer me to adult services because he 'doesn't know what he'd be referring me for'. The way that he said 'one more time' made it feel as though I was a burden on him and that I'm obviously just going to be wasting his time. All in all I feel that the way I was spoken to by him was unacceptable and it has made me quite nervous about having to see him again.
