"Hysterectomy"

In early June, I had a subtotal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. However, each time I retell the story, I add a bit for dramatic effect. So far a double hysterectomy and quadrilateral salpingo-oophorectomy!

It's been a rollercoaster couple of months with lots of medical 'firsts' for me, having hadno previous health issues. Now one week later, I feel so well, so quickly and am looking ahead to a 6 week recovery plan.

I am ultimately impressed by the care received at RAEI/ Leigh Infirmary. Thanks is due to the staff who have been involved in my treatment:

Consultant - she's fantastic (and had to tug hard to get my very, very large uterus out). Until I can shake her hand and say 'thank you,' then there is unfinished business.

The staff on Swinley Ward of all levels who passed my way during my 48 hour stay.

The Enhanced Recovery Nurse for the much appreciated phone call yesterday to check that I was making expected progress.

The staff from my own workplace (who will never read this but deserve to be mentioned) for ensuring that I am not missed. Also for the 'beyond the call of duty' such as my chaperone on the day of surgery and of course all those who ran in the Race for Life at Pennington Flash on Sunday. Promise I'll be there next year!

I could not have asked for more or better from RAEI/ Leigh. Now I have a personal responsibility to bounce back to my best.
