"I had to get up at 6am for an 8:30 appointment "

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital / Ophthalmology Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

(as a service user),

I live in Wellington and couldn't drive to this hospital as I would need eye drops.

I had to get up at 6am for an 8: 30 appointment at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Not good.

Hospital out patients clean. I was seen promptly, everyone friendly and efficient.

My only moan is the traveling time. I am able bodies but at the ripe old age of 68 would have preferred an appointment at the Princess Royal Hospital.

Thank you for your comments.

I am sorry that the appointment arranged with your agreement by TRAQS resulted in some inconvenience to yourself. Our aim is to offer patients an acceptable appointment at a time and location of your preferred choice. However, this sometimes is not possible as TRAQS does not have control of the available appointments at local hospitals. It may well have been possible to secue at an appointment at the Princess Royal Hospital but this may have resulted in some delay in your treatment. Therefore, to ensure you do not suffer any further inconvenience we offer alternative choices. Nevertheless, I am pleased that your experience at the out patients department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital met with your approval.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write to us. We rely on all constructive comments such as yours to maintain the highest standard of service provided by TRAQS.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience of and your difficulties in travelling. When we plan our services we try hard to balance the need for providing expert specialist care (sometimes the specialist staff or equipment needed for a service means that we may only be able to provide it from one specialist location) versus the aspiration to provide services as locally as possible. You may want to share your hopes and expectations as part of the big debate taking place across the county led by our GP commissioners. You can find out more and make your views known at http://www.telfordccg.nhs.uk/call-to-action (the questionnaire closes on 4 November 2013).
