I was admitted via 999 Ambulance with the symptoms of a Stroke, within the hour of admission I was seen by a stroke nurse, had a CT scan and then a medical review. As a Registered Nurse and my first visit to Torbay A&E I was pleased with the speed of my treatment, I was discharged with my bloods and CT scan been given the ok and a date for the TIA clinic next day, within 3 days I had an MRI scan an artery scan and a review from a stroke specialist, I could not have asked for a quicker and more efficients service. All staff were re-assuring and helpful and understood my anxieties and frustrations of profesional helplesness. Only one aspect requiring a slightly negative comment, the Paramedic called the A&E to tell them a possible stroke victim was coming in, but the memebr of staff at the A&E who took the call did not action it, so on arrival no-one knew I was coming in, therfore the stroke nurse was delayed and a bed in Resus had to be fouind. While it is only a minor point and in the past (real) Stroke victims were routinely left in A&E while investgations were poerformed instead of activly treated, things nationaly have moved on for the better, a minor but important point though. I would happily return to Torbay if I ever needed treatment.
