"My life within the drug community and Grantham Addaction"

About: Addaction Grantham

(as the patient),

I've had a long and varied life within the drug community and after taking the step towards giving up drugs I have had a very good response towards my recovery. Though due to recent changes in policy things have become more akward in approaching certain aspects and the abilaty to stay and relax and gather my thoughts has made me feel more inclined to use gain, but my over all opinion is that the service and staff do a great job under difficult circumstances.

Response from Jo Finch, locality manager, Grantham, addaction

Thank you for your compliments regarding the staff and service at Grantham. I am not quite sure what you are referring to when you say ' due to recent changes in policy things have become more awkward in approaching certain aspects....' I would like to speak to you further about this, if I may? Please ask to speak to Jo, next time you are in the office or call me on 01476 512 950.

You talk about ' staying to relax and gather your thoughts' when visiting our office and say that by not being able to do this you have been more inclined to 'use' again

We have made some changes in our waiting area. This is because clients were using the area to congregate with friends - some of whom were not Addaction clients. This could sometimes lead to noisy discussions and people new to the service had found this sort of atmosphere rather threatening and made them reluctant to return for further help. It also compromised their confidentiality when standing at the reception counter. I hope that you can appreciate that our service needs to be welcoming for everyone and it is always difficult to walk in to somewhere new and ask for help.

This is just the sort of issue that can be discussed further at our Service User Group, held on Wednesday afternoons, please give me a call to find out more about it. We may be able to find other ways to help and support you.

Kind regards
