What I liked
Antenatal care excellent. Maternity unit v well-resourced and homely. Staff looked after us well, bringing food and drink, which I didnt expect!
After birth, lots of staff, lots of helpful information and experts in physio and breastfeeding and so on popping round to see if anyone wanted advice.
lots of food, good food - again much better than I expected.
What could be improved
Midwives' approach to baby rejecting breast feeding - bit unsympathetic and gung ho -kept pushing the baby's head. I've heard since that can make problems worse. But there was a specialist bf advisor and she was great.
The way hospitals run is very tiring - 6 beds to an open sided room, with no partner allowed after visiting hours. babies cry all night and those helpful expert staff popping in and out all day! Not great when you've maybe been without sleep for a couple of days cos of labour.
Would be great if one day partners could stay and look after the mums so they can sleep. But maybe costs too much.
